Who are the Marching Colonels?
The Dixie Heights Marching Colonels (aka DHHS Marching Band) is a wonderful group of students in 7th thru 12th grades from Dixie Heights High School and Turkeyfoot Middle School in Kenton County, Kentucky. The Marching Colonels have a long history of success dating back to the 1980s. They have won many trophies throughout their long history and continuously achieve championship status in the various circuits in which they participate. The success of the Dixie Heights Marching Colonels should be attributed to the hard work and dedication of our committed students as well as the talented and devoted staff the band employs.
Though many of the students are in the school concert band, it is not a requirement for participation. Every student works hard to develop and perform a 10-15 minute show consisting of brass, woodwinds, and percussion instruments as well as color guard. The show is performed throughout the fall season not only at the local football games but also at marching band competitions throughout Kentucky and Ohio. The band participates in the KMEA (Kentucky Music Educations Association) circuit, MidStates Marching Band circuit, as well as the BOA (Bands of America) National circuit. Though many of the Bands performances occur in the local Northern Kentucky area, the band has been known to participate in competitions around the region including Lexington, Louisville, Dayton, OH and even Indianapolis, IN. In the past they have even traveled as far as St. Louis, MO, Atlanta, GA, Disney World and even Great Britain in the 90s to show off their talents and participate in competitions.
