DIXIE PEP BAND - The 2009 Dixie Pep Band schedule is listed below. This group is open to all instrumentalists at Dixie, Turkeyfoot, and Summit View. The number of percussionist is limited however as we use a drum set and bass drums. Percussion kids can join Pep Band, but they may need to switch off on songs due to the small number of instruments involved. The cost of Pep Band is $20, which is used to buy new music for the Pep Band and gets each child a t-shirt which we wear at most games and at tournaments. This can be paid anytime before January 15th. Please use the envelopes and payment box located in the Band office. The first game will include a practice before the game for a quick refresher on the music. The arrival time at that game will be 5pm...(January 7th). All other games will require a 6pm arrival time for quick warm-up and set-up for the games. Students that sign up for Pep Band should understand that this is a 9 game commitment (5 boy games and 4 girl games). Our main function is to support our teams and represent out school. This is a fun group that allows our kids the opportunity to display their musical talents to a large audience and a chance for our kids to socialize with their friends. We will also travel with the teams to the tournaments depending on days, times, and locations. All regular season games will be held at Dixie and students report to the band room. NOTE - There will probably be a game or two added during the Kenton County Celebrate Schools Week (January 19th through the 24th), but we do not know when we play yet because it is a tournament.
What is it? The Dixie Heights Pep Band is a group and wind and percussion musicians, who perform, cheer, dance, sing, and entertain during Dixie basketball games. The group is meant to be fun while also assisting with school spirit during the basketball season. The Pep Band is one of the most visual ensembles we have at Dixie performing for an audience of people that may never attend a band concert or see a winter guard performance. Any student from Dixie, Turkeyfoot, or Summit View is allowed in the group, as long as they know how to play a musical instrument. What does it cost? The Pep Band fee is $20, which gets you a Pep Band T-shirt (our uniform at games) and helps in the purchase of new music. What do we play? We have a set group of songs that we have played for years as well as some new songs that will be added this year. There is no memorization in Pep Band and you may check out the music if you would like to practice it at home. How often do we practice? Unlike the other ensembles which require a ton of rehearsal time, the Pep Band only meets 1 hour prior to the game in order to practice the songs. Can I be in Pep Band if I was not in Marching Band? ABSOLUTELY! Pep Band is a great way of getting to know more about the Dixie Band and Dixie in general. During Pep Band you will meet new friends, watch great basketball games, learn some fun music, and help support our teams. Many students who were thinking about joining Marching Band joined Pep Band first to see what the high school environment is like. What kind of commitment does the Pep Band involve? The Pep Band attends 10 home basketball games during the normal season (5 girls and 5 boys games). The band also travels with the teams during the District, Regional, and State Tournaments. We will find out Tournament times and dates once the season comes to a conclusion. Please sign up for Pep Band with Mr. Duddey either through email or in person.
