General Rules BUS RULES The Dixie Band takes extreme pride in the way we act in AND out of uniform. When we are on the bus we need to be aware of 2 major things. 1. The bus driver needs to transport us in the safest way possible. 2. Your behavior and attitude on the bus has a direct result on your attitude and mindset for the competition. Same rules apply as last week. Behavior on the bus was good. When a bus driver comes to railroad tracks the bus must be silent, so the driver can follow procedure. Students will sit on the same busses they were on last week. The following rules are the band’s additional rules to the rules of the Kenton County Board of Education. 1. Personal music devices are allowed, however no music device should play music that everyone can here. Do not bring radios on the bus without headphones. THIS IS A SAFTEY ISSUE, as well as a comfort issue. 2. Students are not allowed to stand up or move around the bus while it is in motion. Once you pick your original seat you are there until the ride is over. 3. NO YELLING, SHOUTING, OR SCREAMING ON THE BUS. This is very important. The bus driver must take his/her eyes off of the road when he/she hears screaming or yelling. This is very dangerous and there is never a reason to scream on the bus. As tradition we are allowed to group sing, as long as I get permission from the driver. If the singing becomes too loud or is a distraction to the driver, I will ask you to stop. If I ask you to stop…..stop, no arguing. 4. There will be garbage bags placed throughout the bus. Do not throw trash on the ground, out the window, in the seats, etc. Use a trash bag. Different sections will be assigned to make sure the busses are clean at the end of the night. For this competition the trumpets, alto saxes, and flutes will make sure the busses are clean and all windows are up and locked. 5. We will stop talking once we reach Beechwood Road. This is not a punishment, but a chance to clear your head of the bus ride and get ready for what we are about to do. During this time you should go through your show, musically and visually in your head. You should not have to hum, tap, or sing in order to do this. During this few minutes of the bus ride you should remain facing front, without looking out the windows. Make an impression early. When the band guides get on the bus to stamp your hand, say thank you, but no other talking. Once we exit the bus there should be no talking as we will exit in a single file to a place where we can get instructions on what to do. You can begin talking once you get instructions on where to set your belongings and what to do. As we prepare to dress and get ready for warm-up, please act in a calm controlled manner. You should always act in a professional manner and make other bands wish they were apart of our organization…..do not make them think…”Man am I glad I am not in that group of kids”.
